Paula Mitten

Paula Mitten is an internationally recognised yoga teacher and yoga teacher trainer. She’s the creator of Durga Yoga Ireland and Yoga Teachers Masterclass. Paula is a teacher of teachers, teaching yoga for 18 years and facilitating teacher training since 2011.

Paula's passion is encouraging self exploration and inner belief in her students and is committed to building a yoga community of support, connection and generosity.

When she's not teaching yoga you will find Paula dancing in her kitchen to 90's old school music, or at the stables with the horses. In the stillness of the morning, before the rest of the world wakes, Paula enjoys sitting leisurely over a pot of fresh organic coffee and taking some quiet time to think.

Paula's first experience with yoga was while working as a costume designer in film and television. She found pranayama as a way to destress, and cope with anxiety and overwhelm.

She went on to take over 1,000 hours in Yoga Teacher Training, as well as training in Sports Psychology, Anatomy and Physiology, Business and Marketing, Leadership and Transformation Skills.

Paula’s spiritual journey is never finished, and she considers herself a dedicated student for life.

Jennilee Toner

Jennilee Toner is a student and teacher of yoga and human anatomy. Her story (so far) includes: practicing hatha and vinyasa yoga since 1996, teaching both disciplines since 2003, teaching experiential anatomy to yoga teachers in training—internationally—since 2010, as well as facilitating her own Hot Warrior Yoga and Inner Sanctum Yoga teacher training programmes since 2012 and 2016 respectively.

But that’s not all . . . she also wrote a book called The Perfect Chaturanga: A Comprehensive Guide to the Human Body Through the Practice of Vinyasa Yoga

Her yoga journey began in 1996 while working as a deputy sheriff and training as a medic, military policewoman, and drill sergeant for the U.S. Army. Following the sudden death of her mother, she found herself wanting to make a change and be a more kind and compassionate person. Enter yoga. For the first time she became aware of how everything’s connected, and has been a lover and practitioner of yoga ever since.

FAQ'S

Q. Is this training a Hybrid model?

A. No! We don't believe in the hybrid model. Our training is fully online, meaning there won't be any students in the studio with our teachers. You will also get to attend a 1 day in-person retreat where we get to be in the room together without any live streaming or technology in the background. The best of both worlds without any compromise.

Q. Is there a set schedule for the online classes or is it self paced?

A. All classes are live on a set schedule; all classes will be recorded and uploaded into our membership hub for you to catch up on any live sessions that you might miss.

Q. I'm not very flexible, can I still take the training?

A. Yes! Yoga Teacher Training is not about being flexible (although you might notice your flexibility increasing over our 6 months together) Some of the best yoga teachers in the world will tell you that they are not very flexible.

Q. I practice yoga regularly but I'm not that good at all of the poses. Will I be out of my depth?

A. No, you will not be out of your depth. We are looking for passion, not perfection. If you enjoy doing yoga and you are passionate to share your love of yoga with others then you will fit right in.

Q. How can you correct my alignment in the online sessions?

A. This is an advanced teaching skill that the Durga team have mastered to perfection!! (AND you will learn the exact method that we use to adjust without touch, when you take our training).
Using what we see in the students in front of us, combined with impeccable cues, expansive language and leadership skills, allow us to safely and effectively guide students of any level without the need to place our hands on them.

Q. Is there the same energetic connection  from the online training?

A. To quote one of our recent online graduates “we laughed, we cried, we danced and we grew and blossomed in our practice and in ourselves.”
The connections that you create during your online sessions are as deep and meaningful as any time spent in person allowing you to make friendships that will last a lifetime.

Q. Can you see exactly what I am doing in the online classes?

A. Yes! We can see you perfectly. We will help you to set up your camera correctly and on our side we use a 55″ screen to ensure we can see you without any difficulty  – AKA no hiding down the back! We also have our team of assistant teachers there during your morning practice to ensure you get the best possible support.

Q. What is the time commitment outside of our scheduled weekends?

A. You are expected to do a minimum of 20 hours of revision and class planning outside of our scheduled time together. That works out at around 1 hr per week.

What To Expect, Mary's Story

Mary Gardinar

Owner of Shiva Yoga studio

Before I started my yoga teacher training, I researched many different options and yoga schools. I decided on training with Paula Mitten due to many highly spoken recommendations. To say the course was life changing is cliched but also true. I knew from the beginning that the course was intense, and this intensity hooked me straight from the word go. It was clear from the beginning that it was a serious course and that the teachers really wanted us to leave feeling confident in our ability to teach yoga. The broad range of topics covered including philosophy, anatomy, Sanskrit, assisting, business and so much more left me with the literature, resources and confidence to start my teaching journey straight away. Beginning each morning with silent meditation was a struggle to begin with, however I quickly developed my focus and have continued this practice when possible. I loved the intensity of our morning practices and could feel my body get stronger day by day. I really feel my teacher training allowed me to develop both spiritually and physically. Since finishing my teacher training, I delved straight into the world of teaching. I'll began teaching small classes in the local hall and have since opened my own studio where I offer a broad range of various classes on a weekly basis. Over a year after completing my initial teacher training, I feel like I can go back to Paula with any questions or queries and I have, confidence in the knowledge that she will continue to support, encourage and inspire. I genuinely feel confident, fully equipped and inspired as a yoga teacher as a result of my teacher training with Paula.

About Durga Yoga Ireland

Durga is a Hindu goddess of war, strength and protection, the female Divine aspect who was created to destroy the demon that could not be killed by any of the male Gods.

In the arrogance of the demon, he did not think it possible to be destroyed by a goddess, a mere woman!!

She is depicted holding the trishula of Shiva, and the conch and discus of Vishnu and rides a lion or tiger to symbolise her control over even the wildest of nature.

. Durga Yoga Ireland’s mission is to empower yoga practitioners to tap into their Durga energy and go out into the world as dedicated students and teachers.
