Ashtanga Weekend Retreat

A weekend of Ashtanga in the wonderful Elbowroom Escape in Wicklow. This is the perfect getaway just an hour drive from Maynooth. Our weekend will begin with an opening circle and led Ashtanga class on Friday evening at 5pm followed by a delicious vegetarian dinner.
There will be a light breakfast available each morning before we meet in the yoga studio for practice.
The Saturday morning session will be a Mysore style class where you get individual attention on the poses, within the primary series, that you need to work on. This is a fantastic way to learn the Ashtanga yoga practice as you can work at your own pace and go as far through the sequence as is right for your body.
You will have a lesuirely lunch followed by plenty of down time to enjoy your surroundings or have a dip in the outdoor hot tub. The afternoon class is a workshop which breaks down the primary series, looking at ways to work into some of the more challenging sections of the sequence.
We will have a sumptuous evening meal before lounging in the comforts of the wonderful escape.
Sunday morning will be another Mysore style class where you can put everything you have learned over the weekend into practice. We will end by sealing our time together in a closing circle and dining over a beautiful healthy lunch.
You will leave this retreat feeling re-energised, envigorated and with a new found love for and interest in your yoga practice.

Understanding and Opening Your Hips:
Regardless of how we spend our time the hips often store a lot of tension. Our hips are designed to be fluid and active, however, with excessive sitting (at a desk, driving) running, cycling etc, this often isn't the case.
Unexpressed emotion can also be stored deep within this area. Opening the hips can clear the 1st and 2nd chakras. When the lower chakras are appropriately active this lessens your pattern of stress response and sparks your creative energy into action! Feel the freeing physical and emotional benefit of digging deep then letting go.
The workshop format allows you to gain huge benefits by deepening your understanding of your hips. You can ...then start to work with this knowledge in your regular classes
Awaken Your Power:
Create change where previously stuck as you build core strength whilst shiftsing energy around the Manipura chakra, your 3rd chakra or solar plexus.
In relation to self belief and personal power this area can sometimes have physical and energetic limitations. We will fire up the core area and use twists to burn away what keeps us stuck or bound and liberate the willpower to move forward.
Twists in a yoga practice can have a detoxing effect on the body as well as promoting a healthy spine and creating space for back bending. Building intelligent core strength has endless benefits, not just to a yoga practice but to everyday activities, posture, good alignment etc.
This will be a strong practice. I will definitely give modifications, however not suitable for complete beginners. A thorough cool down, relaxation and closing meditation will end the weekend.
